Help kick off Women’s History Month by joining the Transformative Justice Coalition (TJC) on Monday, March 1st, 7:00 PM. This program will feature an expansive conversation by Black women leaders and activists on the marshaling of the Black women’s vote for success, advancing policies and programs addressing Black women’s priorities and combating the backlash against Black women’s political participation embodied in a new wave of voter suppression legislation. Featured guests include Former Ohio State Senator, Nina Turner; Executive Director of Georgia Coalition For The Peoples Agenda, Helen Butler; President of the National Organization of Women, Christian Nunes; President of the National Bar Association, CK Hoffler; NBA Young Lawyers Division, Election Protection Chair, Ashley Lee; TJC’s leaders, Barbara Arnwine and Daryl Jones! Virginia’s legislature just became the first in the south to enact a voters’ rights law that in certain ways mirrors national protections that evaporated suddenly in 2013. Could other states be destined to follow?

Virginia Whittaker said she didn’t renew her driver’s license after 2012 because by then she was no longer driving. It ended up costing her the right to vote in the 2014 general election, because in 2013, the Virginia General Assembly passed a law requiring voter photo ID.
